Top tips to create the perfect dinner party cheeseboard!

West Country Cheese Wedding Cakes-2

The cheeseboard can easily be the pièce de résistance of any dinner party – here are some of our top tips to wow your guests…

  1. Pick a theme!

Think about what theme you’d like to give your cheeseboard – for instance, you could focus on British cheeses (even picking a specific region!), European cheeses, or an ‘around the world’ board with cheeses from a variety of countries. Why not select cheeses from each of the countries/regions your guests are from, and make your dinner party a really personal experience?

  1. Tasty textures and flavours!
  2. You want your board to be made up of a mixture of soft cheeses, semi-soft cheeses & hard cheeses. Also think about what type of milk and flavour you’re looking for, as a cheese from cow’s milk will taste and feel very different to one made with sheep’s milk

  1. Height matters!

Make your cheeseboard visually appealing with a variety of heights,
widths and sizes – for example, a Dorstone will give your cheeseboard height, and a Tunworth will give it width.

  1. Name your cheese!
  2. There’s nothing worse than being faced with a number of cheeses and not knowing what they are, if you’re not a cheese connoisseur! Make sure to cater for all of your guests and clearly mark the different types. There are fun ways of doing this, such as slate/chalk hearts, or even hand written notes.

  1. Perfect pairings

While we would happily gorge on a board full of cheese, it’s important
to offer some other items to complement them. The obvious choices are biscuits and chutneys, but don’t forget about fruits (both fresh and puréed) and vegetables which are easy to snack on, or even dip into softer cheesesDinner Party Cheeseboard

  1. Make it pretty!

Not a necessity, but decorating your cheeseboard is bound to make your guests ‘oooh’ and ‘aaaah’. Adding seasonal flowers, greenery and herbs will instantly beautify your board. Pinterest is a great source of inspiration for this: https://uk.pinterest.com/explore/cheese-boards/
